Transformer toys have become collectable items. Even today there is still a market for older transformer toys the ones from our childhood. Actually old toys have become too expensive; a while ago I was surprised to find out that the one of those toys, a green tank was now worth nearly $ 500!
These toys are catalogued based on their year of manufacture. And as you probably know, earliest series come from 1984. In fact if you have a transformer toy manufactured between 1984 and 1990, you’d be surprised to know these toys go for $ 100 and more. Obviously, these toys are very popular both in Japan and USA, also in Canada. Statistically, Majority of Transformer collectors are from Japan.
Transformers toys can be worth a lot more than just $ 100. All depends on manufacture date and the condition of the toy. For example, lucky owners of the limited edition transformer Autobots from 1984 series could sell their unopened toys for $ 1000.
Bootleg is also one of the most popular items for Transformers toys collectors. Bootleg Transformers are in fact made for one particular country, and therefore these toys are not authorized to be sold in other countries including United States and Canada. Obviously Bootleg Transformers are extremely rare and not easy to find. There is a misconception with the word bootleg transformers is that they are poor quality toys but not always, sometimes these bootleg toys are highest quality authorized product. So basically, if by any chance you got ahold of transformer toys that wasn’t authorized product, it means you are in possession of the very rare product and it’s definitely worth holding on to.
Surprisingly, there are toys dedicated to the characters from Transformer games, characters that can only be seen in games and not in the movie or original anime series.
Due to the large amount of these toys produced in the past 3 decades, it’s not easy keep up with all the transformer toy products. In japan only there tremendous amount of transformer toy collections available.  It’s almost impossible to own every item from the collection.
